The MBCA Hall of Honor has been established to honor those persons who have helped to improve/promote/ and or serve basketball in Minnesota. Honorees have been longtime supporters of their local teams or have given outstanding service to the game of basketball. Awards are given in four categories: Officials, Media, Coach - Head/Assistant, and Friend of Basketball. To be eligible for the Hall of Honor, a person must have been involved with basketball for at least 20 years. That person must be nominated by a MBCA member, the MBCA Executive Board, or the MBCA Hall of Fame committee.  

 

The following individuals will be inducted as the members of the MBCA Hall of Honor in 2011:

·         Gary Addington; Coach/Administrator - Basketball coach at Wanamingo H.S. and Hibbing H.S.; Athletic Director for Rochester Public Schools (20 years); member of MSHSL Board of Directors serving as President in 2000; currently serves as assistant coach for his son, Matt, at Kenyon-Wanamingo. 

·         Bill Haben ; Coach Coached at Monticello, Shakopee, and Benilde; led Benilde to 7 Catholic State Tournament appearances including 1964 title; career winning percentage of 72.2 %.;  first Principal of Benilde-St. Margaret’s H.S.; gym at BSM is named in his honor.

·         Jeff Munneke, Friend of Basketball – Longest tenured employee of the Minnesota Timberwolves being with them since their inception in 1988; currently Vice-President of Client Development;  recipient of MBCA Distinguished Service Award for contributions to high school basketball and youth basketball. 

·         Jim Robinson, Official – Currently serves as State Coordinator of Basketball Officials; blazed a path for African-American officials by being the first African-American to work a State Tournament game in 1954; former member of the MSHSL Board of Directors; officiated in and served as evaluator of DI Big Ten officials; served as a member of the NFHS Rules Committee.  

·         Barry Wortel, Media–   Broadcaster and sport show host for KTOE – Mankato for 36 years and spanning five decades;  has broadcast over 2500 games, including over 1400 basketball games; multiple times has broadcast all 16 championship round games of the State Tournament.

 

The honorees will be honored guests, recognized, and presented with a plaque at the MBCA Fall Clinic Awards Luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Minneapolis on Friday, October 28, 2011.
