Tackle Cancer

Dear Coach,

On behalf of the Minnesota Football Coaches Association, we are proud to announce an exciting new partnership between our association and the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund.  Cancer is a disease that has impacted all communities, most of our families, and many of our football teams throughout Minnesota.  For the past 29 years, Randy Shaver has been there every Friday night in the fall covering high school football.  This partnership seems so natural!  Together, we are going to TACKLE CANCER.

The mission of the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund is to support the cancer community in Minnesota by funding research, prevention, treatment and other programs relating to the cancer community’s needs.  That’s where you and your football team come in.  We are partnering with the MFCA to challenge every high school football team to sponsor at least one “Tackle Cancer” night during the month of September.

We encourage you to select a home game (more than one is optional) this Fall and then promote the game as a “Tackle Cancer” night in your community, among your fans and among your visiting fans.  People attending the game can make donations towards funding additional cancer research and together we can “Tackle Cancer.”   90% of all dollars collected will go DIRECTLY to cancer research and treatments.  Randy’s foundation has raised more than $4 million to date but there’s more work to be done.

Below are four easy steps to follow:

  1. Select a Home Game(s) in September for your “Tackle Cancer” Game.

  2. Promote the game within your school and community.   Ask your Activities Director to communicate to the visiting team early in the week that this is a “Tackle Cancer” Game.

  3. Organize a group of lower level players or parents to collect donations at the gate.  Be creative in how you promote the event – create a banner, etc.

  4. Send one check to the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund by Tuesday, October 2.  The address is 1660 South Highway 100, Suite 335, St. Louis Park, MN  55416.  Make check payable to the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund.

The team that raises the highest amount of $ (per student enrollment) will be featured on KARE – 11 Sports in October.  Thanks for your support!

“Keepers of the Game”

Sincerely,
