2011 - 12 Miss Basketball Marissa Janning - Watertown-Mayer

Janning, a crafty, playmaking point guard and one of Minnesota's all-time leading scorers, has been announced as the winner of the state's most prestigious individual award for girls basketball.

The Creighton University recruit is fourth all-time in Minnesota girls basketball scoring with more than 3,500 career points in her six-year varsity career.

"When I started my career a long time ago, I didn't know this kind of award even existed," said Janning, who played in the senior all-star series at Macalester College.

"This is a great way to end my career," she said. "It was a great group of girls (as finalists). I am so honored to be recognized this way."

The other finalists were Hill-Murray's Tessa Cichy, Eden Prairie's Jackie Johnson, White Bear Lake's Alexis Foley, Kali Peschel of Sauk Centre and Sydney Coffey of Hopkins.
