2011 Class AA Boys Tennis Coach of the Year

I just completed my 2^nd season coaching the boy’s tennis team at Mahtomedi High School in 2011. Prior to that I coached the girl’s team at Mounds Park Academy for 5 seasons, the boy’s team at Stillwater and the Duluth East boy’s in the mid nineties. I have been a full time teaching professional at Lifetime Fitness-White Bear Lake for twelve years and also the head pro at Dellwood Hills Golf Club the past two summers.

I played my high school tennis at Stillwater Area High School and college tennis at University of MN-Duluth. I have to credit two of my past coaches with my development as a tennis player and more importantly my coaching philosophies: Bill Herzog and Chuck Anderson. Bill for his ability to motivate and inspire his players, and Chuck for his tennis knowledge.

When I am not coaching I enjoy golfing and occasionally playing tennis, wishing that the summers were longer. I have participated in the Pine Tree Apple Tennis Classic since 2000 and have helped them raise more than $2 million for Children’s Hospitals and Cancer Research.

As a coach I couldn’t accept this award without recognizing the players that have played for me. There have been individual and team state champions, which makes them great players, but more important I am honored to have coached them because they are all great people. I also need to thank the activities directors that have hired me. Finally, I thank my fellow coaches. Knowing that you voted on this award for me makes me honored to accept it.
