2011-12 Coaches Timeline and Nomination

  1. All nomination forms must be submitted electronically through this website

  2. A confirmation will automatically be generated upon submission

  3. Submissions must be received by the deadline to be eligible for awards

  4. Coaches must be members of the MSHSCA/MGBCA in order for players to be eligible for awards.

  5. All coaches are encouraged to join the MSHSCA/MGBCA.  Cost is $45 for head coaches.  Membership can be submitted online at http://www.mshsca.org/  Coaches must be members of the MSHSCA/MGBCA in order for players to be eligible for awards.

  6. Due by December 1, 2011       COACHES ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP FORM

  7. Due by December 9, 2011       MISS BASKETBALL SUBMISSION FORM  *Window Closed for 2011-12

  8. Due by January 20, 2012         ALL-STATE/ALL-STAR NOMINATION FORM  *Window Closed for 2011-12

  9. Due by February 10, 2012       TEAM ACADEMIC STATE CHAMPION FORM  *Form will be available 1/15/12 to 2/10/12

  10. Due by February 10, 2012       INDIVIDUAL ACADEMIC ALL-STATE FORM  *Form will be available 1/15/12 to 2/10/12

  11. Due by February 17, 2012       SECTION COACH OF THE YEAR VOTING  All members of the MGBCA are eligible for section coach and assistant coach of the year.  Voting is conducted by each section rep.  Section reps should send Section Coach of the Year and Section Assistant Coach of the Year winners to Jenny Johnson via Email:  jenjohnson@edina.k12.mn.us

Coaches vs Cancer

Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) that empowers basketball coaches, their teams, and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer. The initiative leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of athletic coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs.

Miss Basketball 2010 - 11
Rachel Banham - Lakeville North

University of Minnesota recruit Rachel Banham capped an impressive prep career at Lakeville North High School by earning the title of Minnesota Miss Basketball at a ceremony at The Depot in downtown Minneapolis on Saturday.

Banham becomes the first University of Minnesota recruit to earn the award from the Minnesota Girls Basketball Coaches Association since Katie Ohm (Elgin-Millville HS) in 2005. Overall, Banham will become the ninth Minnesota Miss Basketball to play for the Golden Gophers. Another Minnesota signee, Kayla Hirt of Bemidji High School, was among the seven finalists for the award.  Read Full Story

2011 Hall of Fame Inductees

We inducted four new members into the Minnesota Girls Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame. 2011 is our 18th year of Hall of Fame ceremonies and we now have 81 members inducted through the years. The MGBCA is very proud to announce our 2011 inductees and thank them for their extraordinary efforts to Minnesota Girls Basketball. 2011 inductees are: Andy Berkvam—Lakeville North HS, Terry Hunst—Bloomington Jefferson, Paul Larson—Prior Lake and Don Shelby—WCCO
